WHAT DO WE DO?

Our vision is to 'Elevate Thought' and our mission is to 'Lead the global conversation about China'.

The Post is fully digital across media platforms including www.scmp.com, www.inkstonenews.com, www.abacusnews.com and www.goldthread2.com smartphone and tablet, social media and messaging platforms. Our flagship newspaper is printed and distributed in Hong Kong.

We develop news content 24/7, driven by world-class journalists, editors, visual artists, photographers and videographers, all guided by our Editorial motto of 'Truth and Fairness'.

Our Head Office is in Hong Kong and we are expanding globally, with offices and editorial bureaus in New York, Washington, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

The year-long programme starts with eight to 10 weeks of intensive training on all aspects of journalism, followed by a rotation to the major desks for the remainder of the training year.

Who?
Talented, ambitious graduates who want to become journalists. Excellent English, strong writing skills, and a curious mind are essential. Cantonese or Mandarin, and multimedia skills are highly beneficial.

What?
Trainees earn professional salaries and are closely mentored during a first year designed to fast-track their development. Upon successful completion of the programme, trainees will move to permanent reporting jobs on their assigned desks.

When?
Before January 1, applicants should send a cover letter, attaching a full CV detailing language skills and any journalistic experience. The application should also include three published English-language news or feature articles from a print or online publication, and at least one letter of recommendation and apply via the online application and please include your other documents with your CV. Please Note - the next group of trainees will be expected to report for duty on June 22, 2020 so please do not apply if you cannot start on this day.

The graduate trainee programme takes place in Hong Kong.

South China Morning Post - 2020 Internships

Our summer interns spend 12 exciting weeks as paid reporters in our Hong Kong newsroom, helping to cover one of the world's biggest stories, China, as well as local and global news with a focus on Asia.

You will be integrated into our reporting teams for stories from the China economy and protest marches, to store sales and typhoons. We are looking for those studying, visuals, graphics and online, as well as text journalism.

Next summer's internships will run from early June.

Applicants should be third or fourth-year students, or be fresh graduates with excellent English. Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus.

Applicants should send a cover letter explaining why they see an internship at the SCMP as a useful addition to their career planning, and detail language skills and any journalism experience.
