Asia-Pacific Coronavirus News: S.Korea's confirmed COVID-19 cases top 10,000, death toll in India rises to 53 as infections reach 2,069

HONG KONG, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries.

SEOUL -- South Korea's reported cases of the COVID-19 topped 10,000 as of midnight Friday local time as 86 more cases were confirmed for the past 24 hours.

The number of infections totaled 10,062, and five more deaths were confirmed, lifting the death toll to 174.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry said Thursday evening that the death toll of COVID-19 has risen to 53 and the total confirmed cases has reached 2,069.

According to ministry officials, so far 156 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

TOKYO -- Japan reported that as of 8:30 p.m. local time Thursday, a total of 2,713 cases were confirmed, with the daily number of cases topping 200 for a third straight day and the death toll rose to 82.

Nationwide, 218 new infections have been reported as of Thursday evening, while in Tokyo 97 cases were recorded.
