-- Singapore reports 518 new COVID-19 cases, 34,884 in total;

-- Afghanistan records 680 new COVID-19 cases, 15,205 in total;

-- The Philippines reports 862 new COVID-19 cases, total exceeds 18,000.

HONG KONG, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries:

YANGON -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in Myanmar has risen to 228, with four more confirmed cases reported on Monday, according to a release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

Of the newly confirmed cases, all patients are from Yangon region who were under quarantine after their recent arrival from India.

A total of 138 patients have recovered from the disease and six deaths were reported so far.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 518 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 34,884.

Of the newly confirmed cases, two were cases in the community, and 516 were work permit holders residing in dormitories. There were no imported cases.

Of the new cases, 99 percent are linked to known clusters, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

KABUL -- Afghanistan has recorded 680 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients to 15,205 in the country, spokesman of the Public Health Ministry Tawhid Shakohmand said Sunday.

According to the spokesman, eight patients have died due to the disease over the past 24 hours, totaling the number of COVID-19 related deaths to 257 since the outbreak of the disease in February in the country.

MANILA -- The number of the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 18,086 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 862 more infections on Sunday night.

The DOH said in a daily bulletin that the number of recoveries climbed to 3,909 after 101 more patients recovered. The death toll also increased to 957 after seven more patients died.

According to the DOH, 244 of the reported cases were in Metro Manila, 81 cases in the Central Visayas region in the central Philippines and 302 cases were reported in other parts of the country.

The DOH added that 235 overseas Filipinos workers repatriated by the government have also tested positive for the virus.
