TAIPEI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Seven people tested positive for COVID-19 in Taiwan Saturday, raising the island's total number of COVID-19 cases to 474, the local epidemic monitoring agency said.

Six of the new patients contracted the virus outside Taiwan while the infection source of the last case remained unclear, the agency said in a press release.

Among the six imported cases, all male, three are Taiwan residents and two are Filipino while one is Guatemalan, the statement said, adding that five of them had stayed in the Philippines and one in Guatemala before arriving in Taiwan.

The final case is a Belgian in his 20s who has been in Taiwan since May 3. The man took a COVID-19 test on July 29 since he planned to return to Belgium but tested positive for the virus Saturday.

The authorities have identified 89 close contacts of the man but are still investigating the actual infection source, the agency said.
