BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- August 9 marks International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. It is a worldwide celebration that marks the date of the inaugural session of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations at the United Nations in 1982. On this day, people from around the world are encouraged to spread the UN's message on the protection and promotion of the rights of indigenous peoples.
The theme for International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples 2020 is COVID-19 and indigenous peoples' resilience. On this special day, let's take a look at how indigenous peoples live under the COVID-19 pandemic as well as some past events that showcase the wisdom, voices and awareness of the indigenous peoples.
