BRUSSELS, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in European countries.
BERLIN -- The number of new COVID-19 infections within one day in Germany reached the highest level since the beginning of May, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Wednesday.
New infections with COVID-19 in Germany increased by 1,226 within one day to 218,519 on Wednesday, according to the RKI. The last time that the figure was higher was on May 9 with 1,251 new daily infections.
Daily COVID-19 infections in Germany had peaked at around 6,000 in early April. Numbers started falling in May but had been rising again since the end of July.

BRUSSELS -- The Brussels-Capital Region Minister-President Rudi Vervoort decided to make mask-wearing compulsory in public places throughout the region starting from Wednesday.
The regulations came as the incidence rate in the region has passed the threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last seven days.
Wearing a mask covering the nose and mouth is therefore now obligatory for any person aged 12 and over in public places and private places accessible to the public.

TIRANA -- Albanian Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu on Wednesday called for more responsibility among youth to overcome COVID-19 pandemic, on the occasion of the International Youth Day.
Via a Facebook message, the minister called on Albanian youth to follow the simple measures in order to avoid being infected with COVID-19.
Manastirliu urged Albanian youth to reflect more on their behavior and responsibility, in this challenging time that Albania and the whole world is going through.■
