HONG KONG, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries:

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Sunday morning recorded 613 new deaths and 24,850 more positive cases during the past 24 hours, taking the number of deaths to 19,268 and total cases to 673,165.

This is the highest single-day spike in terms of fresh COVID-19 cases in the country so far.

According to ministry officials, 409,083 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

MANILA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 44,254 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,434 new cases on Sunday, the country's biggest single-day infections so far.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries rose to 11,942 after 489 more patients survived the disease.

The death toll increased to 1,297 after seven more patients succumbed to the viral disease, the DOH said.

DHAKA -- A total of 2,738 new cases and 55 more deaths were reported in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the country to 2,052 and total cases to 162,417.

The total number of recovered patients stood at 72,625 including 1,904 new recoveries.

JAKARTA -- The confirmed cases in Indonesia rose by 1,607 within one day to 63,749, with the death toll adding by 82 to 3,171, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference.

He also said that 886 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 29,105.

KABUL -- The Afghan Ministry of Public Health confirmed 279 new cases, bringing the total number of patients in the country to 32,951.

A total of 592 tests were conducted within the past 24 hours, and 279 were positive in 14 provinces out of 34 Afghan provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

Thirty-eight patients died within the period, taking the death toll to 864, the statement added.
