From Dyson to Xiaomi, here are five of the best HEPA air purifiers for your home

Colds, flus and other viruses can happen easily inside a home when airflow is restricted, allowing air-borne bacteria and viruses to circulate indoors. The best air purifiers on the market are the ones that feature a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter, which is 99.97% efficient at removing particles that are no more than 0.3 microns in diameter, including deadly particulates such as PM 2.5 and PM 0.5.

One important thing to note is that even the best HEPA filter will not kill viruses, as viruses are submicron in size which makes them too small to catch. However, an air purifier with a HEPA filter is able to eliminate harmful airborne microorganisms, as well as allergens such as dust and pollen from the air. To help you breathe safer and healthier at home, we’ve selected five HEPA air purifiers that will keep the indoor air clean.

Dyson has long been championing household appliance technology, and this purifying fan is no exception. The Dyson Pure Cool Fans are available in two sizes: a tower and a smaller desk size. Both are able to sense pollutants in real time and report air quality levels to the Dyson Link app.

Inside the fan is a 360 ̊ Glass HEPA filter that captures 99.95% of microscopic allergens and pollutants as small as 0.1 microns, complete with a carbon filter that removes odour and harmful toxins like paint fumes. The filters should be replaced regularly and can be purchased separately.

If you haven’t heard of Smart Air, you’d be dumbfounded to know that the founder of this air purifier was inspired by a DIY air filter that he made using only a fan and a HEPA filter, which was able to reduce indoor levels of dangerous pollutants such as PM 0.5 and PM 2.5 by 84 percent and 92 percent respectively.

The Sqair is a stylish upgrade to the DIY device, which gives the same results and is noticeably quieter than major purifiers on the market.
